Cake Decorating
One of the most important
components of cake making is the decorating. You could have a really good
tasting cake, but if it doesn’t look cool, or catch the consumers eye, how do
you expect someone to but it?? There are many different techniques to cake
decorating. One of the easiest and most effective ways is to use Fondant.
Fondant is a thick sugar paste that is very easy to mold, it has a very similar
texture to play dough.
In the video below you see the
simplicity of molding fondant into a beautiful ribbon and bow. When trying to
get the fondant to stick together, you need to use paste that is made up of
water and Meringue Powder. One thing that baker stressed was that it is very
important to let the fondant sculpture dry, in this situation it was a lovely
pink bow. She rested it on a block of foam to allow it to dry longer. Once the
bow had dried it was ready to be placed on the cake. This simple decorating
technique took a good cake and transformed it into a great cake!!
